It's nice to find out that everyone is getting together each year. A while back, Curt Knight and I were talking about trying to find and get together a reunion for our group, but never did anything about it. He lives in California and I live in Minnesota. If we had computers back then, it would have been a little easier. I am not sure if we will make this year's reunion, but for sure next year in San Diego.

I joined the Navy in Aug. of 1957, right out of high school. I was stationed at the New Orleans Naval Station for awhile and reported to the Stoddard on December 16, 1958 and left on September 30, 1960. I left as a BMSN. I was honorably discharged from the navy on the fourth day of August, 1963.

My wife is Marie and we four children, three boys and one girl. We now have eight grand kids.

I served on the Stoddard early 1968 to mid 1969 as a Boiler Technician. Keep me informed about the reunion. With it being in October and in San Diego there is a big chance I'll be able to attend. Hopefully it will be mid to late October. I work in a cannery and the season is from July to either the first or second week in October. Send me information on membership. I've joined the Tin Can Sailors and enjoy going to the reunions when possible.

While on the internet I accidently came across ships reunions and found that a 2000 reunion will be held. Also a Stoddard web page and other web sites will all this fantastic ship info that you vets have worked on. Having gotten into the 21st century with a computer: I can't get enough of it.

I served on the Stoddard 1951 to 1954 ... in the supply dept as SH2.

My first tour was at NAS in Seattle, Washington. Got assigned to the Stoddard in December 67 and served on her through May 69. then to COMNAVFORV Saigon, Operation Seafloat; CamRahn Bay until June 70. Went to college, now GS-12 engineer with Naval Air Systems Command.

Operation Seafloat was near the southern tip of Vietnam, floating in the LaMao River. We were very close to the action, but we were never hit -- two squads of Navy Seals protected us. I LOVE the Seals!

I worked for N.J Bell for 25 years, then transferred to AT & T for 10 years, retired on 12/31/89. I now teach and work in stain glass and do wood carving. The group that I worked with was Bill Babock, Louis Coe, Ed Wooden, and Ellisworth Smith.

I served on the USS Harlen R. Dickson (DD-708) before coming aboard the USS Stoddard in 1954. After discharge in 1955 1 worked for the City of New York as a corrections officer (3 years), and fire fighter (21 years), married the love of my life, Anna, who gave me four wonderful children: John (police officer, NYC), Patricia (teacher, Fairfax VA), James (US Naval Academy graduate, Lt. USN) and Ann Marie (teacher, Westbury, Long Island NY). They in turn gave us six grandsons (still waiting for a little granddaughter!) and most of all, four excellent sons- and daughters-in-law. So you can see, I have a wonderful life!

ussstoddard.jpg (46460 bytes) This was taken in the Tonkin Gulf in 67, I believe. Not sure which ship it was taken from. They use to call us the truck busters. We blew up convoys in North Viet Nam traveling down the coastal highways. We were hit in the aft and on the bridge and ended up in Dry dock in Sasebo or Yokosuka Japan for two weeks. Cannot remember which town it was. They hit us 5 feet below 5" gun mount #3's handling room which was the Engineering birthing space. Two feet below that was a fuel oil tank. I was in the handling room just above where we were hit. We were shooting all of our guns at them. We were 2 miles off the coast trying to fish a spotter pilot out of the water that was shot down. We were at a dead stop when they opened up about 25 shore batteries at us of 90MM I think it was. They were locked on with radar. We fish tailed it out of there and Damn near dropped the load on #2 boiler. We were real lucky we only took two hits....When I think about it I am lucky to be here. They hit us with armor piercing shells a foot above the water line. It blew a 6" wide hole in the side of us then exploded inside. Five feet higher it would have hit the 5" magazine I was in and two feet lower a fuel oil tank. - Paul McCue

McGonigal, Jim M. - deceased 12/03/02

Stoddard: WWII PO

I was on the Stoddard when it was commissioned at Seattle and served on it for the duration of the war.  If you were aboard, you no doubt already know that we operated out of Adak in the Aleutian Islands along with the Smalley and the Rowe.  I will never forget the "Night Trip" to bomb the island of Matsu, off the coast of China.  Also the time we were attacked by the three Jap planes when we were on picket duty.  I remember that we "claimed" two without too much trouble, but one was more of a "problem".  It got awful close.

A note from Glen Balzer (12-13-02) - I've spoken with Bill Jefferies, nephew of Jim M. McGonigal, WWII Stoddard shipmate. Jim lived in Ohio for most of his post-Stoddard life until January 2000 when he moved to Orange County, California. He developed Alzheimer's Disease about eight years ago. He recently checked into a hospital in Tustin/Santa Ana around Thanksgiving. While in the hospital, he contracted pneumonia. He passed away on December 3 from advanced pneumonia. Jim's nephew would like to know how to acquire any books about the Stoddard from the WWII days. If anyone might like to speak with Bill, his phone number is (714) 334-7526.

My Great Uncle James McGonigal served on the USS Stoddard during World War II. I'm regretful to inform all whom served with him that he has past away this last week. He died from complications of pneumonia on Monday, December 2.2002 in Santa Ana California at 12:45 a.m. His only surviving family member, Thelma Jeffreys had been caring for Jim the past two years, Jimmy was a very funny guy and we will all miss him greatly.

Regretfully yours, Denise McKillip - Great Niece  [Denicerj@aol.com]

    [E-mail received 10-25-00]
Tonight, 28 October 2000, at 5:30 p.m. I am being honored by my family and fellow Naval Comrades at my Naval Retirement Ceremony held at the Officer's Club on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This "tin can sailor" is throwing out the anchor... for now.

    [Original Biography]
I reported to the Stoddard as an MM3 in Jan 1963 and served aboard until Feb 1966.  I was assigned primarily to aft engine room until my last several months on board when I was reassigned to main control.

I was promoted to MM2 in 1964 and took and passed the test for 1st class before leaving Stoddard.

After discharge in Feb, 1966 I moved with my family to Albuquerque, NM as a stationary power plant operator.  Later I joined the Naval Reserve and taught an engineering class to pre-active enlistees.

I made MMC at the earliest opportunity and was selected for the warrant officer program soon after.  In 1979 I was selected for W-4 but I decided I wasn't ready to hang it up so I applied for the LDO program.  I was selected in 1983 and presently hold the rank of Lt. USNR.

I retired from the Public Service Co of New Mexico in 1988.  I am now employed by Texas New Mexico Power Co with offices in Silver City, NM.

I married the former Julia Karam in San Diego, CA in 1966 before being discharged.  We raised 5 beautiful children, 4 girls and 1 son.  We are the proud grandparents of 11 and 2 great-grandchildren.

Enlisted in Navy July 1943, boot camp Newport, RI. Served in USN Armed Guard, went to Murmansk & Archangel, with convoy that sank Schornhorst around Christmas time. Was duty bugler. Transferred later through an all NAV for volunteers for destroyer or DE duty only. Picked up the Stoddard while she was being repaired alongside the Yosemite. Served on Stoddard until her decommissioning in Charleston SC. Went on to train midshipmen on LSTs until 12-46. Discharged in Bainbridge MD.

After the service I became a florist and worked for my mom. Then I went on to work for the phone company for 40 years until I retired. I have taught drum and bugle corps for most of my life. My wife Mary and I have six lovely daughters, all are married, and have given us grandchildren.

Morgan Bio:

Other duty stations after the Stoddard include BUWEPS and WPAF at Dayton, Ohio, Adak, Alaska, USS Richmond K. Turner DLG-20, back to Adak and then to U.S. Naval Station, Annapolis, MD and then transferred to Fleet Reserve for retirement.  Went to Missouri to take care of my mother and relaxed as a civilian.  Went to SFCC Sedalia, MO and graduated from there with an AA degree in accounting, continued to CMSU, Warrensburg, MO for my BSE in Business Education with a life time teaching certificate in Missouri.  Worked the Missouri State Fair and did substitute teaching.  Moved to California for awhile and went to work for Crocker Bank.  We were going to microfiche all the records but due to budget cuts was let go.   Went to work for the Water Utilities Department for the City of San Diego and the Planning Department.  Due to stress quit and moved to sweet home Oregon.  Worked for the Oregon State University for several years and quit due to poor health and moved back to Kansas among my relatives.  I have asbestosis, don't know where it came from except the ships I was on.  I was in the 5"38 handling room and there was a lot of dust there and then we kept those pipes covered with asbestos, cleaned and painted, and they ran throughout the ship.  I'm glad Casey Jones called me when he did.  I have found that all my ships have a website.

Shipmates: At the request of Neil Morgan, I'm forwarding the following message regarding asbestos.  If you have any information for him, please respond to him directly at the below address.  I'm just the messenger, and am not involved.  Bob Hoag

Bob has there been any talk among the members of the crew about contracting asbestos or any medical problem from asbestos?  This is Marshall N. Morgan  and I have found that there is asbestos in my lungs. I can remember all the pipe covered with asbestos  that we had to clean, and the dust stirred up in the 5" 38,s handling room.  If you have anybody with that problem, please let me know.

Good to hear from you. I had forgotten the name, but it was Cdr. Wall that I relieved in Yukosuka during the middle of a snowstorm! I had been scheduled to relieve almost a week later, but some exercise was going on that they wanted Stoddard to participate in. It was snowing so hard I couldn't see the opening in the sea wall not too far from where we were tied up, so we had to wait a couple of hours, then it cleared up just enough, and we headed out. I had to cut my inspection of the ship short so I could relieve early!

It is odd you went to Keyport. When I was there it was called the Torpedo Station, Keyport. When I left Stoddard I had orders as XO of NAD Bangor. We drove up from San Diego, and when I walked into the XO's office and showed him my orders he turned pale. The detail office in DC had not even told him he was leaving! He informed me that he was scheduled to relieve the CO the following day, and that the press was coming, and a big change of command ceremony was planned! I told him I had a couple of days before I had to report, so go ahead with the plans, and I would go up to Indian Island for a couple of days, then come back and relieve him, which I did.

The old Skipper was still in his office when I got back, and I went in to see him. He advised me that I should know that the Navy Exchange at Bangor had been losing about $2000.00 a month for several months, and he thought I should know about it! My first official job there was call for an investigation. A couple of months later I was advised there was something funny going on, and the head of the PX was suspected, but there was not enough evidence to charge him. I phoned Washington and told them what was going on, and asked for them to transfer the Store Keeper to another less responsible place. To my surprise they refused. I then relieved him of his duties and put another storekeeper in charge, and transferred him to our Tug as a deckhand! I don't know whatever happened to him, but the PX immediately started earning about $2000.00 a month!

Turns out the skipper at Bangor and the skipper at Keyport were having a feud, and were not even speaking. I made my call on him very cautiously! We finally got along OK, but I was on my P's and Q's for some time. I was finally relieved as CO after about six or more months, the took over as XO as the base was expanding rapidly and they ordered a four striper in. I felt Bangor was eventually going to be taken over as a Submarine Base, as part of our work was servicing submarines, even though shipping munitions was our primary job.

By the way, I just go by my initials T.L. My dad did not want me called Ted as he was afraid people would think I was named after Teddy Roosevelt, which was popular at the time!

This plaque was received when I was replaced by
Cdr Presgrove as CO of the Stoddard in June 1965.

I went aboard the Stoddard in November of 1965 when it had just returned from WestPac (Vietnam). While on board the Stoddard we made various visits to different ports. Everett, Washington in 1966, Tacoma, Washington in 1967, for Fourth of July celebrations. We went to Acapulco, Mexico and various midshipman cruises to Pearl Harbor, Refresher training after dry-dock in Long Beach, California. Many sub and gunnery training sessions. We had two Westpac Tours to Vietnam, making stops along the way Pearl Harbor, Midway, Guam, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Sasebo, Yokosuka, Hong Kong, and Subic Bay. Not all in such order. While on duty in the Gulf of Tonkin we were called upon to do various duties such as plane guard for many different carriers and of course shore bombardment. While on plane guard we were called to retrieve a downed pilot. We were hit with shore batteries. Luckily no one was injured. We temporarily made repairs and left for drydock in Yokosuka, Japan.

Upon leaving the Navy, I came to Tacoma, Washington and I have lived here since 1969. I worked as a plant mechanic for American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO) until 1985 when the plant closed. I have been employed for Pierce County Utilities from 1985 to present as a waste water maintenance technician. I have 3 children and 4 step-children. My hobbies are hunting and stock car racing.

[ Email from Bob Haug 10-24-01]
Shipmates: Here are excerpts from an email I received from our Shipmate Freeman Neish ('59-62). We were all concerned that he may have been in his headquarters in the WTC, however he has since started working for the Army in Korea. We're all thankful he's ok, and thought you might like to see his comments.
Bob
Security measures here in Korea since 11 SEP have been strict but not oppressive. We are probably safer here in Korea than in downtown Podunk in the U.S. It does look like we are taking the right course of action, my only concern is that the media headlines keep blasting away about our strikes at Afghanistan instead of the terrorists IN Afghanistan. This only fuels the fires for other Muslims around the world. The poor old Afghans have taken it in the shorts for so many years that it is almost impossible for the average American to even imagine the life they lead. One of the best solutions I have read said that if we kill bin Laden he becomes a martyr. If we put him in prison it will spawn a series of kidnappings and hostage taking around the world. The key is to capture him, give him a complete sex change operation and make him live as a woman under the Taliban.

Please keep me on the address list for Stoddard info. It is interesting, after 24 years in the Navy, the old Stoddard wardroom is the only one that I can still vividly remember all my shipmates. We did indeed, have a collection of characters, competent seafarers but characters, none the less.  I truly enjoyed that tour of duty. I also recall with fond memories our pulling whaleboat race against the HMS Carrysfort (SP?) in Hong Kong harbor. Remind Andy and Jim about that one when you see them.

My old organization, United Seamen's Service, headquarters was on the 21st floor of World Trade Center Tower One. They all dutifully turned off their computers and exited out the door of Tower Two just as the second aircraft hit the building. It was only then that they realized that this had not been just a tragic aircraft accident. Fortunately, all the USS staff exited safely, of course, all organization records were lost. It will be a daunting task to get re-organized and back in action. All USS Centers worldwide are in operation as usual.

I was on the Stoddard in 1955 to 1956 before I got discharged.  Before I went aboard I was on shore duty at Glenview Naval Air Station up by Chicago.  I was a torpedo man and they needed one, so they flew me to her over Japan.  They had one chief on board, the rest seamen.  So I ended up in charge of the torpedo tubes and depth charges.  Also the chief put me on the master-at-arms.

Dan,

I thought I better take some time to compliment you and the excellent job on the Stoddard site. It has helped me to recall a number of people I was involved with back when I was a member of the crew. They were very pleasant memories. It was a little on the difficult side to see the video on the sinking of her. For the smelly, rusty, old bucket of bolts she was, I have a lot of fond feelings for her. I remember many anight standin watch on the bridge. The fear that we also had as we came out of Hong Kong on the '68 cruise and ran smack into three or four monsoons in a row. I think even the old salts lost some breakfast on that trip. It was a scary thing because the seas were so rough we almost ran out of fuel before the seas calmed enough for an oiler to come along side and refuel us. I also remember the boring time we had following that ridiculous Russian trawler around. They picked up our garbage and we picked up theirs. It was kind of like two kids running around a bush after each other. Being on flight line was fun except when we had to follow the Enterprise. She head up steam and speed on over the horizon and then turn around and find us plugging away at trying to follow her.

The firing line was boring and noisy for me. I had to stand watch in aftersteering for most of the time in case we lost steering from the helm on the bridge. Lots of time staring at four gray walls and trying to stay awake for 12 hours a stretch. I do remember once when I was on watch on the bridge when the ROK (Korean)soldiers called in for firing assistance with a bunch of Cong they had pinned up in a cave. A couple of positioning shots and the next thing they said was we blew up the cave with everyone in it. The captain and gunnery officer were pretty proud of that shot. I sometimes wondered what the poor guys in the cave thought about it. Something like, "Oh Shit!" maybe.

Well enough reminiscing. Just thanks again for the fine job you're doing. If there is anything I can do to help out please let me know.

Sincerely,
Lyn Noe '68-'69( ex-QM3)

Oder, Bruce "Doc"
Stoddard: 59-64 (Deceased Sept 2001)

I regret to inform shipmates who remember "Doc" Bruce Oder, Pharmacist 1st class, passed away about a month or so ago. I used to run into him occasionally, mostly at the doctors office. We not only served on the Stoddard together, but also later when I was assigned at Recuit Training, San Diego. "Doc" was liked by all who knew him.

I was only on the Stoddard about four months as it was being "moth balled". I left in the month of October ...and I thought it was about ready for decommissioning, but maybe it didn't pass inspection, or was not officially decommissioned until Jan of '47. I would not know as I was gone by that time ... having been discharged.
During those months, I made some good friends among the "below deck" crew. I was MM3/Cso and worked mainly in the engine rooms.

Going way back, I was a S1c gunners mate. Left the Navy on February 26, 1946. Worked several maintenance jobs, then in 1947 I entered college, played one year of football, met my wife who was a senior and decided school was not for me. We were married on August 14, 1950. 1 started working at Eli Lilly and Co. and worked there 33 years. At the time of my retirement in 1984, I was supervisor of night maintenance. My wife Joyce retired from 35 years of teaching. We moved to northern Minnesota, built a new home on a lake and spent our retirement enjoying fishing and golf. In my retirement I served as gaming manager for Cuyana Range conservation club (raised walleye) as well as supervisor of the mission township board in charge of township roads.

We have two boys who live in Texas. We recently moved to Texas (in the heat of summer, from the cold state of Minnesota). Hope to enjoy the heat and lots of golf!

Hello Dan - I was nosing around on the Stoddard website and found the Alumni Biographies and thought I should make up one also.

I enlisted in the Navy in August 1958 and went through "Boot-camp" in San Diego. I reported aboard the USS Stoddard Nov. 1958 when the Stoddard returned from WESPAC. I started out in the after engine room working for Ted Schobl, MM1/C. One day Chief Stoddard came to me and said that he needed someone for mess cooking and I was it. I spent 3 months mess cooking and when finished, there was an opening on the evaps. I report to the forward engine room under Jim Cooper, MM1/C, to work on the evaps and Chief Stoddard came up to me and said "Paullus I need someone for mess cooking and your it." I then had to explain what I had just been doing for the previous 3 months. I worked on the evaps just about the whole time I was on the Stoddard (this started my water works career).

My GQ station for many years was in mount 52 and served in the handling room and mount. I was the pointer for about six months before making MM3. From then on I was on the evaps. I left the Stoddard in August 1962 for discharge.

After I got out of the Navy I went to work for the City of Corona Water Dept. and spent 14 years there before going to work for the San Bernardino Valley Water District for 5 years as their Operations Superintendent. I went to Contra Costa Water District, a large water agency in the SF bay area, as Assistant Supt. of Operations in 1981 and retired in Oct. 1999 as Supt. of Operations.

My wife Pat and I were married right after I got out of the Navy and calibrating our 40th anniversary. We have a son (Frank) and a daughter (Kimberly). Our son lives in Jerome ID and has an 18 year old daughter (Melissa) and a 13 year old son (Chris). Our daughter lives in San Leandro, CA and has a 4 year old daughter (Haylie).

We sold our home in the Bay Area and moved into our 37 ft. motorhome and spend most of our time traveling (as much as we can). We have a membership in RV Resorts in Desert Hot Springs and this is where we are during the winter. Since retirement we have become Texans.

Biography sent in by Eleanor Pelster: Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1942, had basic training in San Diego, went to Machinist School, and was assigned to the USS Griffin (AS13) until transfer to the Stoddard at her commissioning. Was assigned to the #2 engine room and was aboard until her decommissioning in Charleston, SC. Was discharged in April 1946. After discharge, Bob returned to the farm at Elsie, Nebraska, and farmed and ranched on the place he was born all his life. We have three children and eleven grandchildren.

My husband Bob was only able to attend three of the reunions and enjoyed them very much. He was so surprised to hear that the ship had been re-commissioned after 1946. When we organized the first reunion in North Platte, Nebraska, we were so surprised at the wonderful response from fellow shipmates. I am so glad we did it! Bob passed away on April 3, 1992, of a heart attack, in his sleep.

Reported to the USS Stoddard in Adak for first tour of sea duty in August 1944. Served in the gunnery department as a division officer and stood watches at sea in the main battery director and on the bridge. In March 1946 reported to the USS Steinaker (DD-863) as gunnery officer and in 1948 took command of USS PC581 in Newport, RI. From 1950-53 attended USN postgraduate school at Annapolis, MD and later at Monterey, CA, studying electronics. In 1953 reported to Commander Destroyer Flotilla 3 as electronics officer, then to USS Samuel N. Moore (DD-747) as Executive Officer. Became Assistant OINC Eng. FLEX Curriculum at USNPG School in Monterey. In 1959 took command of USS Interceptor (AGR-I) at Treasure Island. She was an ex-liberty ship converted to a radar picket ship. Next came two tours of duty in Washington, with the Navy research, development, test and evaluation program. In between I commanded the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (DD-850) (63-65), and was CO of USS Taconic (AGC- 17) (67-69). I had a final tour in Washington at USN Electronic Systems Command with responsibilities for development and deployment of very low frequency communications systems. Finished my Navy career on the staff of Commander US Forces, Japan (77-74).

In October 1947 married Jeanne Halvorson in Brooklyn NY and three Navy juniors were born in Newport, Annapolis, and Fort Ord -Victoria, James and John. After retirement we moved to Texas and found employment in the communications industry. Jeanne passed away in 1983 and I was fortunate to find Dolly, an AF widow with one daughter. We married in 1985.

Jack and Dolly attended every reunion until 1997 when he passed away in October, just before the 9th reunion in San Antonio.

I joined the Navy Dec 6, 1940 and west to Great Lakes in Feb 9141.  I went aboard the USS Nevada and was on her until Dec 15, 1941.  I got hit on Dec 7, 1941 and had to go to the hospital and came back on the ship on 15th of Dec.  I then went to the Saratoga CV3 (what a junk).  She got hit on Jan 11, 1942 and we came back to Bremerton.  I was transferred to Norfolk to the Joseph Hewes APA- 50 on Nov 11, 1942.  She was torpedoed off Casablanca in North Africa, then west to Rutledge and she got hit the next day along with Bliss and Scott ( all of them were APA's ).  Came back to Norfolk and made APA ferry crew #4, until Oct 1943 and went to DC.  I was going to hydraulic school at DC Navy Yard the last part of '43 and '44 when I was assigned to the Stoddard.

I was GM2c when I came aboard and landed "O" Div with #1 5:38 work station and also watch and battle station.  When we got to the south, I was GM1c and on #45 40mm at Okinawa.  I left the ship in San Diego in Dec 1945 and landed the McKinley AGC7 flagship for A-bomb test at Bikini in 1946.  They asked for a GM1c to go to Adak and I volunteered for it and got it.

Got out in 1947 and in 1949 I joined the Army and got out in 1952.  I finally retired from the Air Force.  I owned a liquor store until Dec 1987, sold it and I am just laying around now like a good old beach bum.

I left the ship and became Hospital Corpsman, thanks to XO Backus. He helped me on my career path. Went to Operating Room Tech School, Great Lakes. Transferred to Marines 1st MAW flying helicopter med-evac. Discharged from service to enter school and become a nurse anesthetic in 1977. I have been in solo private and group practices since. The last eight years I have been freelance, locum tenums anesthetist, traveling the eastern half of the United States. I was married for nine years, then divorced for 13 years. I have now been married for six years to a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist with the VA. I got my pilot's license in 1969. I have owned a sailing charter service in the past. We enjoy travel adventure and exploring what the world has to offer. I have a stepson and grandson.

I served on the USS Warrington DD843 before boarding the Stoddard in December 1954 in Newport, Rhode Island. I went through boot camp and attended radio school in Bainbridge, Maryland and was on NATO duty before boarding the Stoddard. Memories aboard the Stoddard include going through the Panama Canal enroute to our new home port in San Diego. Upon arriving in San Diego, we joined the 7th fleet and subsequently assisted in the evacuation of the Tachen Islands (Matsu & Quemoy) in February, 1955 and after concluding that operation, served on Formosa Strait Patrols until July, 1955.

After discharge, I graduated from Los Angeles City and St. Mary's Colleges with a degree in business management. I worked as a Division Sales Manager in charge of the 13 western states for Goody Products. I was employed by them for 28 years before retiring in 1993. After retiring, we moved to Sun City, Roseville, California (an active retirement community). I was married to Lee in August, 1962 and have two children, Michelle & Jerry and have no grandchildren as of yet. I am a life member of the VFW, Amvets and DAV.

I returned to Battle Creek, Mi in 1960. Hired in to the Post Division of General Foods Corp. as an instrument repairman. Married Shirley a year later. We have a daughter Kim (38), and son Brek (35), and one granddaughter Katie Lee (13). We both retired about 8 years ago (~'95). After leaving the Navy, I graduated from Georgia Tech, attended George Washington University and earned an MBA degree from Georgia State University. I was Director of Research & Development for Wilson and MacGregor Golf Companies. I have been designing golf balls for the past 33 years. I am president of my own company, Cayman Golf Ball Company, Inc.

Barbara and I have three children, three grandchildren and number four expected in November 1998. We have traveled around the world, visit grandchildren and love to attend the Atlanta Braves baseball games and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football games; I also play golf.

I remember finding "One Bit," a small sailboat in Cannes, France Harbor and restoring it.
