The El Tropicano Riverwalk is a “resort style” tropical themed
hotel built in 1962 - the first hotel on the riverwalk. A
recent multi-million dollar renovation has returned the El
Tropicano to the iconic 60’s style for which it was once known.
The hotel has 306 attractive, comfortable guestrooms, Mango’
Restaurant, Tiki Bar, pool and state of the art Fitness Center.
Mexican folk art is displayed throughout the lobby.
Two winding staircases lead to the second floor courtyard and
pool area. The La Habana has windows that peek into the aviary
that houses our resident pets- two toucans (Desi & Lucy), a land
tortoise, and two iguanas (Fred & Ethel).
We have many exciting things planned. Plans include an evening
riverboat cruise down the famous San Antonio River, and a visit
to the famous Alamo.
We will visit Fredricksburg, Texas (60 miles) to see the
National Museum of the Pacific War and the Admiral Nimitz
Museum. This nine acre site is the only institution in the
continental United States dedicated exclusively to telling the
story of Admiral Nimitz and WWII in the Pacific Theater.
In the memorial courtyard are plaques of many ships who served
in WWII. The USS Stoddard has a plaque that many of our alumni
donated during the 1997 San Antonio Reunion.
The ladies will enjoy the unique shops and restaurants.
